I’m Tired AF… Fighting Fatigue as a Business Woman

Have you ever been fatigued? I mean, really fatigued to the point that all you want to do is rest from how tired you are while resting? That is my current struggle. The last time I felt this tired was back in 2017. I was recovering from a bilateral pulmonary embolism. My doctor had placed me on blood pressure pills and blood thinners. To say I was wiped out daily is an understatement. but I followed the regimen and in 2018, I was free! The blood thinners were no longer necessary and my blood pressure dosage was dropped. I was still tired but not as much. Finally, in August 2018, I was taken off the blood pressure pills altogether. I felt I’d gained my life back, my energy returned and I set forth being the creative I am with a new lease on life.

This year, I had a set back shortly after my 40th birthday. My blood pressure spiked and as a “proactive” move, I was placed back on BP pills 😩. Now… There are days when I can’t pull myself together to do anything! When I do, I’m tired the entire time. Not giving my 100%, because Isis is not fully there.

Socializing is difficult and I LOVE meeting people! Getting out of the house is such a chore because usually all I can think about is lying in bed to rest. So of course, I feel totally unproductive! If you’re a business person or creative like me, this causes an entirely new set of issues: Emotional Wellness Issues. With the obstacles of fatigue and loss of productivity, comes the weight of depression and defeat. How do you beat the mental monster?

Well… For me, I’ve always used my past experiences to empower myself. When I feel things darkening around me, I think back to my happy moments, my wins in business. Not only that, I think about how far I’ve come since then. And I remind myself that if I did it once, I can do it again, and again, and again if necessary.

One thing I am a strong proponent of is acknowledgment. It’s important that we acknowledge the elephant in the room. What is that elephant in your life? Until you acknowledge that you’re tired AF, you won’t have any tools to fight it or fix it. Since being honest with myself about my current situation, I’ve been able to plan accordingly. I take full advantage of my energy spurts and try to do as much as possible during those times. I keep a list of what I need done and delegate to my small but trusted team when necessary. These are all things that I couldn’t have done if I’d never accepted the fact that my health was affecting my productivity.
