Women That Rock: Coi Leray

Following in your parent’s footsteps is never an easy feat, and New Jersey born emcee Coi Leray is taking her best shot at making a name for herself in the world of hip hop. Being the daughter of legendary rap mogul Benzino, Coi Leray was born into the industry and so she is no stranger to the trenches of the hip hop game. She began rhyming at the tender age of 14 and has spent the next few years honing her craft, understanding that being the daughter of a rap legend does not grant you instant success. Now at 23, Coi is ready to make a name for herself outside of her famous father.

Coi began earning buzz back in 2017 with the release of the viral singles “G.A.N” and “Pac Girl.” She then dropped 2018’s “Huddy,” the bass-heavy track that flips Durrough’s “Ice Cream Paint Job” hook into a song about only keeping the flyest women in her presence. The video had 3 million views, which helped Coi land a deal with Republic Records.

Despite only having a few years under her belt as a rapper, Coi has quickly made a name for herself with collaborations on projects by Fetty Wap, Jacquees, Ski Mask the Slump God, Gunna, and Trippie Redd.  With a few standout tracks under her belt, Leray knows this isn’t the time to slow down. In fact, she’s just getting started, with her upcoming EP Now or Never, Coi Leray is continuing that trend of being original, but most importantly, she’s evolving into more than just a premier rapper. She is becoming a full-fledged artist who understands there’s so much more to her craft than what is expected.

Her debut EP “Now or Never” is a project that listeners will get to hear how talented and multi-faceted Coi is. She displays her usual dope rapping skills, but incorporates more singing and emotion, abilities we haven’t heard her tap into before on this level.

Coi Leray - Now or Never

On her latest single “Slide,” feat. Gunna, Leray gets on her grown and sexy vibe by singing her heart out to that one special person. She motivates us on “Do Better”, while confronting a tumultuous lover on “Messy.” So if there’s anything to take from this new project it’s that Coi is on the way to becoming a true superstar not only in Hip Hop but Pop as well.

You can stream “Now or Never” on all platforms.
