White Girl Horror Movie Behaviors We Love to Hate

I finally understand why white women in Horror films are important. This quarantine has forced me to dig a little deeper into my movie searches and I found myself watching a film on the SyFy channel entitled, “The Boy”. Why hadn’t anyone told me about this film before? Now, I love a good Thriller/Horror film. When I read the summary, I was a bit unsure if this would be anything more than something to pass the time. But I am happy to report, it was a surefire adrenaline rush in the weirdest of ways, lol.

Chyyy… they left instructions for this thing!

I don’t know about you all, but I love a film that makes me scream at the screen! Which is why I now understand the importance of white female characters in said films. Let’s be honest, if it were us, the film wouldn’t last past the first 30 minutes, if that long. Ultimately, white women are essential to the plot of these films. There’s always that character that we love to hate because she is doing the DUMBEST things in the film. But you know what? She has to. She does. How else will the film make it to a 180 minute runtime? In “The Boy”, the lead character is introduced to the child she is to care for (within the first 20 minutes of the film) and she realizes the child is a doll. Yep. She laughs and then realizes the proprietors are serious. Now, at this point, the credits would be rolling if this were a Black woman. After a quick, “Bitch, I know you lyin’!” Sis, would have been out of there with a swiftness. They still would have had to run her, her check though.

Ronnie would NEVA!

These are the types of films I enjoy. It keeps me engaged and interacting. I’m sure my blood pressure elevated because I truly cursed and screamed at the screen 50% of the film. Only Becky could give me entertainment like this. I applaud you sister! Let me give credit where it is due. This film helped me to pinpoint those trademark white girl horror movie behaviors we all love to hate. Such as:

  • She runs away from her attacker into a basement or attic (because the front door is too much like right).
  • She stabs the attacker once and runs away, leaving the weapon behind.
  • She is constantly falling and tripping over air.
  • She never runs or leaves when she is told to go.
  • She is always looking back when she’s running.
  • She constantly screams or breathes too damn loud when hiding.

Did I miss any? This type of behavior in any horror/thriller film is bound to have me on my feet. And when the film is over, I am sure to tell you how stupid it was. Post your favorites over on our FB page so I can have something to watch!
