The political landscape will be determined, in just a few weeks from now with our votes for President of The United States of America. Women’s rights, racism, a global pandemic, and police brutality is just a shortlist of interest that will impact all of our lives. These interests have found their way into many industries including the beauty industry that understands that beauty isn’t just pretty it’s political.
Instead of concealing political alignments beauty brands are absolutely taking a partisan stance to let their customers know where their affiliations lie. Brands such as UOMA Beauty, MILK Makeup and Glossier are using their platforms to encourage people to vote in the 2020 election. E.L.F cosmetics has joined “Time To Vote” that pledges that on Election day it will be a day free of meetings and will pay employees paid time off to go and vote on November 3. Black Owned beauty brand Lip Bar, founded by Melissa Butler, joined forces with our FOREVER FIRST LADY Michelle Obama for a limited-edition lipstick called Bawse Voter. The collaboration, that encourages voter to get out and exercise their right to vote, will give forty percent of the proceeds to the organization When We All Vote.
2020 has been the year of putting organizations “On Blast” that support political parties that implemented policies that negatively impact Black women. Using our buying power to impact our political power is a must. It’s important to know where your money is going when you purchase products. A host of beauty brands have joined the social justice fight. Brands such as Moonbath, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Ren Skincare, Inn Beauty Project, Tower 28 and Native Atlas, just to name a few, are giving donations to organizations that combat inequality in civil rights, social, racial, LGBTQIA and economic injustice.
On November 3, 2020 or even if you’re participating in early voting, wear your favorite lipstick and make your voice count. As always, be kind, be safe and stay beautiful!!!
