Watching the Emmy’s honestly has never been a pastime of mine. However, I found myself watching and I was rooting for everybody black! It was great to see the diverse representation on the 70th Primetime Emmy’s, and it became, even more, enduring when Leslie Jones and RuPaul came out to announce the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie.
The nominees were a power-packed group of amazing actresses. The best of those (in my opinion) was the outstanding Regina King. She was nominated for the timely and relevant Netflix drama, Seven Seconds. Look, if you have not seen it, you need to make plans to watch it this weekend. As always, Regina King delivers a powerful performance. Her anguish and frustration over the loss of her son nearly brought me to tears. So, yes… her nomination is well deserved.
Seeing her win is always great, but the icing on the cake is the way Leslie Jones reacted to seeing Regina’s name as she opened the envelope to announce the winner. Her excitement for Regina was so pure, so heartwarming, and so joyful! I was smiling from ear to ear to see another sister celebrate like that. We remember how we felt when Taraji’s excitement for Viola Davis spilled over on national television. And that’s how I felt to see Leslie’s joy for her sister. I talk about the importance of celebrating our sisters day in and day out. This, is why. This beautiful display of celebrating others’ win as our own is real sisterhood. Check out Leslie’s reaction below:
Again, congratulations to Regina King on her win and thank you, Leslie Jones, for exemplifying sisterhood on a national platform!
