Springing into Festival Season (Finally) at the La Fete Du Rose!

I am a self-proclaimed heliophile (a lover of the sun), and I am just fully over winter!  Why did she stay so damn long?  I live in Georgia for goodness sakes!  Anywho, this past week, we enjoyed seven full days of Spring weather (it’s only MAY).  Can you tell I’m a bit perturbed by the delay of my spring frolicking time?  This weekend, I kicked off my favorite time of year, festival season, at the La Fete Du Rose.

I’m not a pink girl, well not a “rose” pink girl.  You guys know I love fuschia, blue, and purple.  So, I was really at an odds of what I would have to wear for this event.  My closet holds just one pink item, a rose pink wrap dress that is perfect for a brunch but requires high heels along with it.  *Insert the side eye emoji*  My knees are bad unfortunately and I just like to be comfortable.  I told one of my homegirls, Daphne (who is also an amazing stylist), that my style is boho athleisure… yes, it’s a thing.  So anyway, I cultivated my own cute look for the weekend and I was super stoked.

My girl Sherrie & I giving spring vibes!

I took my business bestie, Sherrie, with me to the festival.  We really needed a moment to enjoy a sunny day, ya know?  When we arrived, walking up to the Historic Fourth Ward Park, you saw a sea of beautiful pink and white of all shades.  The La Fete Du Rose definitely presented a pretty event.  I thought the concept was so cute and dope.  There were a couple of photo backdrop installations around the park that made for some super cute social media pics.  With the way our society does just about everything for the ‘gram, if you are hosting an event, it is a MUST that you make it a “social media festival” as well.

There was only one downside to this event.  And it was a pretty big one… The wait.  Yes, the wait guys.  Not the wait to get in, but the wait in line to pick up your Rose’ bottles.  Each ticket holder received a gift bag that included a darling La Fete Du Rose memorable wine glass and a bottle of Rose’.  However, we had to walk into the festival and join the forever curving line to pick it up along with your picnic box (if you purchased that).  The wait for us was TWO HOURS!!!  VIP’s and General Admission buyers alike all waited in this line.  Many of the attendees were upset about the wait,  but hey… I was able to meet some cool chicks during our wait.  I wished they had just given everyone their gift bags at check in.  It would have made for a much richer experience.

We spent 90% of our time at the festival in the line at the festival.  One of the ladies in line even said, “I guess this is the experience they had in mind for us…the line.”  I totally felt her on that.   Looking around, I really wanted to take time to soak up the beauty of the event, mingle, and dance to the amazing dj’s on hand.  BUT, I was stuck in a barely moving line, all for the hope of a bottle of Rose’ to sip on while at the La Fete Du Rose.  IJS.  My friend and I were parched, to say the least, and it’s freaking Cinco de Mayo!!  Who is parched on Cinco de Mayo?!!  I mean, we had planned on attending the festival for a couple hours then heading over to a Mexican restaurant to take in the Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Our time in line cut into our other celebration, so we had to leave.  Yup!!  All that damn time in line and NO Rose’!  Chile… let me breathe.  Honestly, guys, the festival itself was amazing.  I loved the scenery, the music, and the expectation.  However, the experience leaves much to be desired.  I know that it was the very first year for this event, so with that in mind, I am going to give this festival 3 stars.  I am hoping that this event comes back for the second year given its opportunity to work out the kinks.  To learn more about the festival, visit:  www.lafetedurose.com.
