When a woman is fed up. That is the first thought that comes to mind after watching this movie. Imagine thinking you had the perfect marriage and family. Only to find out you are married to an abusive narcissist that would rather see you dead than not with him. Well, that is exactly where life has found Jade in the movie, “Death Saved My Life”. Her once loving and doting husband Ed has turned into a monster that she barely recognizes.
I was skeptical about whether or not I would like the movie. Lifetime movies in my opinion are predictable and don’t excite me much. I’m happy to tell you I was wrong and I thoroughly enjoyed “Death Saved My Life”.

The cast consists of Jade (Meagan Good), Ed-Jade’s husband (Chiké Okonkwo), and La’Myia Good who plays Jade’s sister Leigh. The cast was overall strong. Meagan Good didn’t disappoint. She gave me abused vibes throughout the movie My favorite character was Ed. He plays the heck out of an abusive husband. I felt like he was talking to me and even flinched a few times watching the movie. Especially during his scenes with Meagan.
I appreciated that the writer Barbara Kymlicka set the stage for open dialogue about mental illness, and domestic abuse. Jade has a history of depression, and her sister Leigh is bipolar. I think this was a smart move. The African American culture typically sweeps the idea of mental illness under the rug. One thing that stood out to me also was the red flags that we sometimes ignore because we are in love.
Overall I give the movie two thumbs up. It is definitely a must-watch and a great movie to sit and reflect about. You can watch it Saturday, February 13th at 8 pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
