OWN is Bringing The Culture to Cooking Shows

I am a foodie, and because of that, I love watching Food Network, TasteMade, and other Food Based Television stations. Unfortunately, you don’t see many Black Cooking Show Hosts. There are a few, but far between. Thankfully, OWN has seen that void and aims to fill it.

Over the weekend, I watched all the new cooking shows on OWN and as I saw a few faces that I’m familiar with (Tregaye Fraser and a feature by YouTube Sensation, Danni Rose), I was introduced to new faces as well. Tonya Holland and Connie Jackson gave me life!! Both of their shows spoke to me not just because they are amazing chefs and the fact that the food looked AMAZING, but they both had episodes in which they focused on their friendships. Ya’ll know I am BIG on sisterhood, so this was so perfect.

Chef Connie Jackson, Host of Lovely Bites

The cooking style was so familiar, and Connie eloquently walks you through the preparation. I really felt as if I was in the kitchen along with her and felt that I could recreate these delicious meals. Oh! And sis creates a special signature drink with each meal!!!! Yassss…. she is definitely for us and by us.

Chef Tanya Holland, Host of Tanya’s Kitchen Table

This lady’s voice is everything. So soothing and exact. She is the Auntie we stop by and see to eat, learn, and relax with. I especially enjoyed her episode with one of her good friends. Two beautiful and loving sisters sharing a drink, funny stories, and enjoying a great meal. I felt as if I were seeing myself and my bestie in 10 years.

Let me tell you something, it’s 2020 and I can’t believe Food Network deprived us of all this Black Food Programming! You never know how important representations are until you see them in this way. Like, you knew that food was seasoned and they always use those seasonings you grew up with! Lawd, thank you for 2020! Have you checked out the new food programming on OWN?
