As I’ve grown older, I’ve noticed that I suffer from blackheads and breakouts. Something I never struggled with as a teen up until my 30’s. And it’s not like bad breakouts, just those pesky T-Zone area breakouts sporadically through the month. My hormones surely attribute to this issue, I suffer from hyperthyroidism, and it causes my hormones to fluctuate ridiculously. Some months, I’m back to my old self and the skin is CRYSTAL! Other months, I stand in the mirror wondering how did I let it get like this?

Now that I have revealed my truth, let’s all get real for a second. Most black women when asked, do NOT have a skin regimen. Why? Because we simply don’t really have a need for it. With little to no maintenance, a black woman’s skin will still look damn good as she enters her late 40’s. However, I WANT a skin regimen. Times have changed. Social Media is King. That means, people will see your pretty face time and time and time again for eternity. We want to look our best right?

Plus, seeing celebrities like Halle Berry, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Beverly Johnson, Garcelle Beauvais, Janet Jackson, and more make you want to step you 35+ game up. And it’s not just celebs. Some of my friends that are older than me, with kids, look freaking amazing! Once again…I need to get my total life to maintain this beauty and reclaim my flawless skin.
Last night, I had to make a run to the store to purchase something for another blog post I’m working on. While I was there, I picked up a bar of black soap. In that instant, I decided to get serious about my skin care and it would start with a nightly facial cleanse using this bar of black soap. We’ve all heard about the fantastic properties in black soap: thinning fine lines, evening out dark spots, eczema, razor bumps and eliminating blemishes. It is also used to lightly exfoliate and give you healthier looking skin. I know this is just one of many other steps I can take to restoring my flawless visual. I just wanted to share with you that I took the first step. I’m 36 years old and I am JUST realizing that I need to take skincare seriously. It’s not too late sistas, all you have to do is get started.
So, what’s your current skincare regimen? Do you have one? Be sure to comment below! I’d love to get some tips from you guys on what you do to ensure your Black won’t Crack!
