Black don’t crack! ย If you’re a black woman, you’ve heard that statement time and time again. ย And guess what…it’s almost damn sure a fact! ย Black women have the blessing of melanin and other great genes that seem to preserve the sexy, the tautness of the skin, even the glow. ย Most of you can look at your moms right now and see how young these 50 and 60 year olds look! ย I met a woman this past weekend at Bronner Bros. Hair Show who was my age…36; with her 19 year old daughter! ย When I tell you, they looked like sisters!! ย I would have never thought she was 36, maybe 22 but not more than 25. ย I told her right then, I need to get all of my life together…and QUICKLY honey!

As I’ve grown older, I’ve noticed that I suffer from blackheads and breakouts. ย Something I never struggled with as a teen up until my 30’s. ย And it’s not like bad breakouts, just those pesky T-Zone area breakouts sporadically through the month. ย My hormones surely attribute to this issue, I suffer from hyperthyroidism, and it causes my hormones to fluctuate ridiculously. ย Some months, I’m back to my old self and the skin is CRYSTAL! ย Other months, I stand in the mirror wondering how did I let it get like this?

Now that I have revealed my truth, let’s all get real for a second. ย Most black women when asked, do NOT have a skin regimen. ย Why? ย Because we simply don’t really have a need for it. ย With little to no maintenance, a black woman’s skin will still look damn good as she enters her late 40’s. ย However, I WANT a skin regimen. ย Times have changed. ย Social Media is King. ย That means, people will see your pretty face time and time and time again for eternity. ย We want to look our best right?

Plus, seeing celebrities like Halle Berry, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Beverly Johnson, Garcelle Beauvais, Janet Jackson,ย and more make you want to step you 35+ game up. ย And it’s not just celebs. ย Some of my friends that are older than me, with kids, look freaking amazing! ย Once again…I need to get my total life to maintain this beauty and reclaim my flawless skin.
Last night, I had to make a run to the store to purchase something for another blog post I’m working on. ย While I was there, I picked up a bar of black soap. ย In that instant, I decided to get serious about my skin care and it would start with a nightly facial cleanse using this bar of black soap. ย We’ve all heard about the fantastic properties in black soap: ย thinning fine lines, evening out dark spots, eczema, razor bumps and eliminating blemishes. It is also used to lightly exfoliate and give you healthier looking skin. ย I know this is just one of many other steps I can take to restoring my flawless visual. ย I just wanted to share with you that I took the first step. ย I’m 36 years old and I am JUST realizing that I need to take skincare seriously. ย It’s not too late sistas, all you have to do is get started.
So, what’s your current skincare regimen? ย Do you have one? ย Be sure to comment below! ย I’d love to get some tips from you guys on what you do to ensure your Black won’t Crack!
