Each night on television, black women are saving the day. But what would happen if one of these women didn’t show up?
The Black Women’s Blueprint, is a group that now anchors a bartering network, a sou-sou (savings pool) and several other cooperative projects.
Lifetime’s new show Girlfriend Intervention is not subtle about its message. Its premise is four black women giving a makeover to a white woman on the theory that, as they put it, “Trapped inside of every white girl is a strong black woman ready to bust out.”
I watched the Minaj twerk fest once, and tears welled up.
Not for joy. But because I remembered my mother and a whole host of proud black sistahs who fought sooooo hard to be something other than their asses.
