‘Butter + Brown’ acknowledges the power of representation

We can all agree that representation matters. We can also agree that the images and portrayals we see on television still have an impact. For Black Americans, it’s even more impactful to see ourselves in a positive light. AspireTV is doing its part to provide this type of programming.

Butter & Brown Representation
Butter + Brown’s Seth Larkin & Leslie Antonoff with IHTG Founder, Kimberly “Isis” Thomas

Aspire Tv’s ‘Butter + Brown’ is an amazing cooking show which shines a light on the way our culture does dinner. They honor the faces that have come before them such as G. Garvin and Sunni Anderson while acknowledging that there is such a huge need for more representation. The freedom and fun that these two exhibits on screen are so special to see. They are long term friends turned cooking celebrities. They are well aware of how important seeing other chefs of color in the culinary space on television is.

The duo gave two tips on how we can transition to a healthier diet:

  1. “Don’t fill your plate with monochromatic foods! The more colorful your plate, the healthier it is.” – Seth Larkin
  2. “Jump into fresh foods. In other words, learn how to make the things you’d usually purchase out of the jar/can. Real food is healthier food.” – Leslie Antonoff
