Who would have thought that wearing one of our favorite things in our closet would have such a purpose?
National Denim Day was created with a purpose to support survivors, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence. National Denim Day campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. Since then, wearing jeans on every 4th Wednesday in April, women unite around the world to show their support for the victim.
Jeans have become a staple piece for many wardrobes. For some of us, we have several pairs, in several different colors, cuts & brands. Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Jeans have evolved so much since 1871. Yes, jeans have been around since the 1800’s. Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi & Strauss & Co. invented the “blue jean”. There are so many types of jeans (which are made out of the denim material) that sometimes it can be difficult finding the perfect fit. Which is why it is so important to know your body type.
Denim used to be just worn for a casual, relaxed look. Over the years, denim has become so much more. You can find jackets, skirts, shoes, and accessories. You can wear it dressed down or up, by adding the right pieces to bring the look to another level.
We used to have to wait until “casual Friday” in corporate America to wear our blue jeans. Now a lot of companies are allowing jeans to be a part of the dress code if worn correctly.
