Where You Should Be Spending Your Money: The Image Creator

It’s Friday! And it’s time for us to highlight more amazing black female entrepreneurs! In Where You Should Be Spending Your Money, we showcase the various businesses available in our community that we can support to inspire you to cycle your very important and all-powerful dollar amongst people that look like you and have YOU in mind.  This week, we feature The Image Creator.

IHTG:  Tell us a little about yourself (hometown, family life, etc.).

Daphne Marie

I am originally from Erie, PA. I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I substitute teach part-time, run my business and watch my granddaughter while my daughter finishes college.

IHTG:  What motivated you to start this business?

I have always wanted to be able to make my own hours and help people at the same time. I got into personal styling when I became a national spokesmodel for a body-conscious organization I became a member of in 2009. I would always get compliments on my outfits I put together for photo shoots. People started asking me to pick out their outfits for them. I never really knew I had a love for fashion until I began doing this, and I am really great at it. LOL. Helping other people feel good about themselves and helping them step outside of their style comfort zone (just a little bit) is what motivated me to start this business.

IHTG:  Tell us about your business (what product or service do you offer, your typical customer, etc.).

I offer several services such as Personal Styling, Personal shopping, closet cleanses, travel packing, event & wedding styling. I offer workshops for entrepreneurs who need to develop or redevelop their personal brand/style. I offer group events to learn about personal styling as well.

IHTG:  How does your business give back to the community?

I am starting a closet give back to my business. I will donate clothes that come from client closet cleanses to various shelters.

IHTG: What advice would you give to someone considering starting a business?

The advice I would give to someone considering starting a business would be to learn balance, be consistent, and have a time blocked each day that you dedicate to your business just as you would for your 9-5.

IHTG: What is the best advice you’ve received since starting your business?

The best advice I’ve received since starting my business is not to GIVE UP! There are many days where life distractions will cause you to lose focus and get off track, but you can’t give up. I would also suggest getting some type of coach.
