When the New Year Resolutions Ain’t Resolute-ing

Girl, you didn’t lose weight last year, so what. You didn’t get a new job last year, so what. You didn’t find love last year, so what. The pressure to set and stick to New Year life changing resolutions can be the very reason why you’re not achieving your goals. It’s time for a monumental change when the New Year resolutions ain’t resolute-ing.

I remembered one year I made a vision board in hopes of being laser-focused on my goals. Well my vision board looked like a ransom note and clearly someone kidnapped my vision because that year nothing on my vision board came to fruition. I felt defeated. Unrealized resolutions can ultimately make you feel worse about your lack of commitment and can trigger negative thoughts about yourself. Sometimes these thoughts can drive you right back into the toxic behaviors you wanted to stop doing.

The newness of the beginning of a year makes us feel like it’s a fresh start but the truth is, every day or even every moment can be a time to press the reset button and start over. Your start can be March 17, July 16 or in the middle of the week. The beauty of your life is that you get to decide when to reset it.

Take the pressure off girl. Live in the moment and show yourself grace. You are not a failure if you didn’t realize your weight loss goals. You are not unemployable just because you haven’t found your dream career. It’s not an attack on your worthiness if you didn’t find love in the time you set an expectation to find “the one”. Just recognize that the New Year resolutions ain’t resolute-ing, take a deep breath and reset.
