Amidst the continuing civil rights unrest this year, I was motivated to create a documentary piece that would give our brothers a voice. The documentary entitled, For The Brothers, is my debut into film-making. I started filming these intimate interviews back in July following the death of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and Rashard Brooks.
The documentary is a visual continuation of an article we posted last year, “A Love Letter To Black Men”. I interviewed 10 amazing Black men ranging in age from 19 to 56. In this documentary, they are vulnerable, open, and sharing their experiences as Black men in America. It’s an interesting perspective to hear from their point of view. I don’t think we’ve ever heard Black men in this way before.
