5 Self-Actualization Statements to Help You Thrive on Your Life Journey

Everyone experiences growth. It’s an important part of our evolution. But you don’t have to simply be a spectator in your evolution. There are steps you can take on the self-actualization process.

According to PositivePsychology.com the concept of self-actualization was brought into the mainstream by Abraham Maslow when he introduced his “hierarchy of needs.” However, today’s understanding of the concept is simply this: the full realization of one’s creative, intellectual, and social potential through internal drive (versus for external rewards like money, status, or power).

This is why the process is so vital. Once you define your goals and dreams for yourself and say Fuck It! to society’s measurements, you will live a more fulfilling and peaceful life. What I have found is that it is important to speak statements over your evolution that will further uproot societal and communal ideologies. Here are 5 self-actualization statements that I live by:

Your past has passed.  Move forward.

Leave the past in the rearview.

We can become overly focused on our past and it can paralyze you. What you have experienced has no bearing on who you are now and where you can go!

Integrity over celebrity.

Have a life of substance, not just “likes”.

The days of character and honor seem to have long passed. If there was anything I am thankful to my ancestors for passing on is the importance of integrity. Celebrity is fickle, your name is forever.

There is always time to live.

Live. Love. Laugh.

In our “Hustle Society”, we spend so much of our years grinding for??? When I experienced a life-threatening hospitalization, it was that day that I realized the importance of making time to actually live! I don’t dump on myself when my body wants to sleep in, enjoy friends, or stay up late nights watching movies with my roommates. Life is for the living.

Learning happens amidst doing.

When I started this website in 2010, there was no template or “how-to”. I learned so much by doing. Yes, I made mistakes, but I wouldn’t change the process for anything. Never allow what you don’t know to stop you from attempting something.

You Are Stronger Than You Think.

You have to see yourself as the superhero in your life story. Just think of everything you have overcome. Instead of seeing it as a litany of mistakes and obstacles, begin to see it as as all the villains you’ve defeated in life. Girlll! You are hella strong.
