Jazmine Sullivan fans have had to wait six long years to hear a new album from the Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter. Finally, on January 8, 2021, the Philly songstress released her long-awaited comeback, “Heaux Tales”.

Though we had to wait a little longer than usual, Jazmine picked right up from where she left off in 2015 when she released her critically acclaimed album ‘Reality Show‘. Her voice still remains one of the most commanding and soulful in the game.

Heaux Tales‘ explores the trials of a 30-something dealing with sex, insecurities, betrayal, regret, empowerment, love, with interludes of real-life stories told by her friends. The project also has features from H.E.R., Anderson.Paak, and Ari Lennox, and production from Dev Hynes, Key Wane, and DZL.

Jazmine has spent a large part of her career known for delivering a certain type of song. She once called them “angry songs” in a 2014 interview with Billboard. Now that’s not to say her angry songs aren’t good — songs like “Bust Your Windows” are amazing works of R&B.

She describes this album as “an observation of today’s women standing in their power and owning who they are. We are multi-faceted and shouldn’t be defined by any one thing. We all have a journey to make and it’s our choice alone how we get there.”

Sullivan is undoubtedly overlooked as the R&B powerhouse that she is, however this latest project displays her vocal range and her the ability to capture the angst of life and love and the realities of dating in the age of the internet.
