Yesterday, Solange dropped a note on Twitter to announce that she’s got a new personalized page on BlackPlanet—the social network that’s been going since 1999. Her page includes new photos, GIFs, and text. Check it all out here, and see a preview in her tweet below. Last year, she hinted that a new album could arrive at any time. Solange’s representatives offered no further comment.

What happened after that?  All of Black Social media went into a tizzy.  Yes, we were scrambling to remember our logins.  Hell, I went on a two-hour search for mine and still couldn’t retrieve it.  So you know what I did?  I created a brand spanking new profile.  I haven’t been on Black Planet since 2000, but man did this return feel right or what?

I think the reason the return was felt by so many is because in 2019, we are in a mode of ownership over assimilation.  A lot of pioneers are out here helping us see the true value of the “culture”.  So, when you have an artist like Solange, who has already proclaimed “A Seat at the Table” isn’t enough, we need something FUBU… then you gain a sense of pride returning to a social platform that encourages us to be us unapologetically.

Have you reactivated your account?  Will you?  Check me out on Black Planet:  https://blackplanet.com/isisthomas
