In this episode of The Dope Black Chick, I’m joined by my partner & friend, comedian Alton Walker. We discuss the importance of knowing what type of lover you are. Meaning how you express love and how you like it to be expressed to you.
As women, I feel we go most of our lives subscribing to a conceptualized idea of love that’s been forced down our throats since birth. Seriously, the whole “damsel in distress” bit kills me. And because of this idea of how women “love”, I’ve always felt awkward and unorthodox in those types of relationships.
I eventually realized that there is no set way to show love and that I should have no shame in what my love language is! That was real freedom! Not only was I free to love in my own unique way, but I was now able to accept and see the multitudes of ways others show theirs.
