We are now 3 weeks into the world-wide social distancing practice as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic. It is taking time for everyone, it seems, to get used to the transition. Up and down my timeline on social media, I read about how mothers have had to become teachers, people struggling with working from home, and the “what’s for dinner” conundrum plaguing us all.
It seems like, overnight, our lives were upended. What used to be is no more and now our homes have become the catch-all spot for our daily lives. I decided to interview Charity Walker, Division Controller from Greenville, SC and mom that is juggling work at home, homeschool teacher, and baker. She shares how things have been going for her and shares some tips for other mothers.
Like many others, she was issued a laptop, monitor, and dock for her home work station. “I have my space to continue to work as I need to.” When it comes to preparation she said this, “We are not running out to the stores buying supplies even with all of us being home together. Products are not something we have been lacking in the household as I coupon on any normal day for the household. I had taken a hiatus from couponing, and now that the disaster has happened, I am mad that I didn’t continue to coupon because I would have been able to share as needed. While we are at home together everyday, everyone knows that over utilization will cause us to be in the red on supplies quicker than anticipated.”
Charity has a household of three, so an ability to be well-stocked goes a long way for them. When asked for tips, she left this for moms: “Take the time to coupon. It not only is beneficial to the household but it also gives me an energy rush knowing that I am able to get things for my family at such low costs. The time consumption is worth it and this disaster has shown that more than anything.
Charity Walker is a Division Controller in Greenwood, SC. She is also the owner of Sweet Indulgence Bakery.
