IHTG: Tell us a little about yourself (hometown, family life, etc.).
My name is Yolanda Brathwaite I’m I am a 46-year-old African American founder of GrownGirlsNyc a woman empowerment organization. I’m married with two children I am a full-time Anesthesiology Tech. Prior to being in the medical field, I was a business owner of a hair salon for 9 years.
IHTG: What motivated you to start this business?
I always saw a need to have a safe environment where women can come together without judgment.
IHTG: Tell us about your business (what product or service do you offer, your typical customer, etc.).
We love to empower women our slogan is, inspire recognize and celebrate. We inspire women to be confident and bold in their stands. Recognize the greatness inside of you and celebrate that every day.
IHTG: How does your business give back to the community?
We get back to the community several different ways. This year alone we had to back-to-school giveaways which allowed us to send 100 kids back to school with supplies. In addition, we have given back to the Breast Cancer Association, raise money for women against abuse, raised $500 for the Lupus Foundation. We also have been awarded multiple awards for our work.
IHTG: What advice would you give to someone considering starting a business?
I tell every woman to believe in God and go for your dreams.
IHTG: What is the best advice you’ve received since starting your business?
To walk in your purpose and do everything with passion and love what you do.
