Foodie Review- The Mad Italian Cheese Steak Atlanta, GA

I woke up this morning craving a greasy, bubbly, cheese steak.  I mean, your girl was really on a mission to snag a piece of this deliciousness!  The best cheese steak I’ve ever had came from a small restaurant in Aiken, SC.  The owner, Gary, was a Philly native and after a year in business, he returned to Philadelphia (insert sob face).  That’s been almost a decade ago and I have yet to find a contender to his sandwiches.  So, I set out to find the Best Cheese Steak in Atlanta!  This is the start of my hunt, and every Saturday in the month of June, I will continue the search.  With all the restaurants in this city, I’m sure to find a mouth-watering bite here, right?  Will they get a “Yasssss!” or a “Helllll No!”?  I pulled out my cell and went to the Scout Mob app.  My first stop in this blog series, was The Mad Italian located in the Perimeter.  Now, according to their site, they have the best cheese steaks south of Philly.  Upon arrival, the logo on the building had me feeling like I’d just arrived at Chuck E. Cheese, you know the feeling….excited!  I love the ‘stache!

MadItalianThe customer service was amazing. My waitress, Stephanie, was courteous and kind with the southern charm I just adore.  Nothing beats a, “What’ll ya have hun?” when you step into a restaurant.  Any who, let’s get to the good stuff!  I ordered a 10-inch Super Cheese Steak…now, to be fair, I didn’t request any condiments or veggies.  In retrospect, I probably should have.  When my sandwich came out it was smoking hot!  I knew I was getting it fresh off the grill!  It was stuffed with shaved steak and bubbling over with chopped onions and American cheese.  On my first bite, I burned my tongue and I resolved to waiting a couple minutes for it to cool down.

imageAfter waiting for my tongue to recover, I dug in.  The sandwich itself was decent, but nothing to write home about.  It seemed to be really dry to me, but I wasn’t sure if that was due to the fact that I didn’t add any mayo.  I was expecting some grease or something to help take it to the next level.  The sliced steak wasn’t juicy, it just didn’t wow me at all.  I think I’d try it again with condiments and maybe some lettuce, but I’ve got to give The Mad Italian a “Hellll No!”.  My hunt continues next weekend.  Will you help me find the best cheese steak in Atlanta?  Comment below on your favorite cheese steak spot and let me know if you’ve ever visited The Mad Italian.
