Fall Beauty Hacks For Black Skin & Hair

Hues of golden amber, fern, olive, plum and carmine emerge as we enter into the fall equinox and a collective “ This is my favorite season!” echoes from humans standing in solidarity with the excitement of autumn. While the fall season ushers in such optical beauty, it also presents challenges to black skin and hair. The drop in humidity makes the air dry and will suck all the moisture from your body and will have someone mistaking you for Ashy Larry. Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen to you this autumn sis.

There will be no hair process shaming or debate tolerated here. You’re allowed to represent your beauty how you see fit. It doesn’t matter if you are natural or relaxing your hair, what is important is that you MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE.

Coconut oil and Jamacian Black Castor oil promote healthy hair. Clary Sage helps to improve the health of your scalp. Additionally ylang ylang oil aids with moisture retention.  Combine a moisturizing oil product with your favorite leave-in conditioner and protect your hair from the brutal cold weather. Hats, wigs, weaves, braids and scarves are all great for protective hairstyles but remember the install process is most important for maintaining healthy hair, so NO PULLING!!

It something powerful about melanin that seems to disrupt the aging process by suspending time and giving us that youthful glow for an extended period. While we may have found the fountain of youth in the melanin of our skin the downside is the visible dryness that like to call us out for forgetting to moisturize. That fact is even more pronounced in the fall time. Too often I have found myself exclaiming to a friend “Girl, I swear I just put lotion on my elbows!”, in utter disbelief that my skin is dry yet again. Here’s a little beauty hack I like to use for that. Along with your lip balm pick up an additional tube for your body on the go. Label it  “Body Balm” so that you know the difference and when you’re out of the house and recognize your skin feeling a bit dry, just apply.

Life is hectic and for a lot of us Covid 19 hasn’t really slowed us down, so setting a self-care hair and skin calendar reminder in your phone can help you successfully moisturize your hair and skin a bit more often.  Also if you put your favorite hair and skin oil products in mini jars in your bathroom and other places around your home such ask your office or the end table that’s closest to your favorite seat on the couch, you’ll be more inclined to use them.

Due to the global pandemic we all know that it’s best to wear a mask when leaving the house and entering into public spaces but wearing a mask can really be a drag if you’re a makeup junkie like me. I know, first world problems, however it is still a bit of a nuisance.

Matte Matters!! Switch out your shiny lip-gloss for a beautiful matte lipstick. When the mask comes off you’ll be photo ready and won’t need to reapply. If you want to take it a step further to P.T.B (Protect The Beat) you can pick up a silicone frame bracket to place under your mask that will prevent your makeup from transferring so you can maintain your makeup masterpiece all fall.

Wishing you all abundance, for this beauty harvest for fall 2020. As always, be kind, be safe and stay beautiful!!!
