From the beginning of time black women’s dialogue with GOD has been culture shifting. Where would the nation be without grandma’s prayers? Particularly those of African-american grandmothers whose spiritual empowerment and resilience not only carried her own family, but various others in the evolution of American culture and society. Prayer has been pivotal in this nation through all of it’s transgressions and triumphs.
During a time when people thought it was ok to enslave human beings and an attitude of superiority infiltrated the minds of white people, The power of prayer at some end must have been a sole point of liberation in black womanhood. The special magic we possess through prayer and embracing our spiritual power has been passed down to us for generations.
While we are not too far removed from the systemic evils of oppression America and life sometimes tend to offer, it’s great to know the heritage of our foremothers has taken root to help create the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the country, and an entire generation of resilient, creative empowered black women who get their worth from within.
A precedent has been set. The evolution has been perpetuated by luminaries before us and the matriarchs in our own families. We’ve been taught by Maya, We’ve been taught by Oprah, we’ve been taught by Iyanla and each of our predecessors to own our spiritual power with boldness. Prayer is an essential part of that ownership. Regardless of how society tries to dismantle the magic we possess. The light of GOD is within us and it’s our responsibility to express it.
On the days where life is hard, the struggle is real (and it’s usually the realest for black women with all of the various issues we deal with) it’s prayer that provides peace and sanity. It’s prayer that usually provides success over the struggle. Whenever your spirit is heavy, sorrowful, or even when you’re anxious and there is no one else to talk with, talk with GOD. Try prayer.
Yes please, if needed get psychological and mental therapy from a licensed counselor, get life coaching, but most of all make personal prayer time a practice. Prayer and belief in GOD is the most common culprit found in successful black women worldwide, in whatever form that takes.
Don’t suffer in silence. You are not alone. There is someone you can talk to. It’s up to us to own our prayer power today and everyday
