Chemist Creates A Tool To Help Black Innovators in Cosmetics

We love seeing Black Women do dope things. We know that there is a huge need for the realistic representation of Black Womanhood. We especially love to see Black Women in roles that aren’t commonly normalized with respect to Black Women. And while Black Women spend a significant amount of our coin in the cosmetic industry, we are sorely represented in product, design, and ownership. That’s why we had to spotlight a black female chemist making waves and building bridges in the industry.

“…’You’re doing what?’ ‘Wow, I hadn’t thought about the people who actually make our beauty products.’ These revelations made me realize there was a bigger audience of beauty enthusiasts who were also interested in learning more about the beginning stages of their favorite products.”

Meet, Tori Dunn. This young woman has taken her love of cosmetics and science to create pathways for aspiring Black-owned cosmetics. “I started Vanity Chemist as a way to share my excitement surrounding my journey through school on Instagram. I found each time I mentioned my Cosmetic Science program, there were confused but intrigued faces that followed. ‘You’re doing what?’ ‘Wow, I hadn’t thought about the people who actually make our beauty products.’ These revelations made me realize there was a bigger audience of beauty enthusiasts who were also interested in learning more about the beginning stages of their favorite products.”
