Brandy Lands Lead Role in “Chicago” On Broadway

wenn21669179Brandy Norwood is headed to Broadway. She will be starring in long-running production, “Chicago.” The big news was revealed Tuesday on the musical’s official Instagram page.

“The name on everybody’s lips is gonna be… BRANDY! Broadway summons their newest Roxie Hart, Brandy Norwood, to the Broadway stand,” producers announced.

Of course, we know that most good things don’t last forever, so if you’re hoping to grab a ticket, we advise you to do so while the getting is good. Norwood will only be appearing in the play for a limited eight-week engagement, which begins on Tuesday, April 28 and ends Sunday, June 21.

Brandy will be stepping into the role of Roxie Hart, a 1920s housewife who murders her lover. For those who are unfamiliar, check out a little more about the plot below.

“Set in the legendary city during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Nightclub star Velma’s serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Driven chorus girl Roxie’s been tossed in the joint for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with. Not one to rest on her laurels, Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn, who turn Velma’s incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, thus preparing the world for a splashy showbiz comeback. But Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve…”

“Chicago” happens to be the longest running American musical on Broadway. The revival of the musical, which opened in 1996, scored six Tony awards the following year in 1997. This is a great move for Ms. Norwood.
