American Refugee: Interview with Erika Alexander, Derek Luke & Ali LeRoi

Imagine this, your world as you know it has collapsed and humanity is in complete chaos. Your only way to survive is to seek the help of your neighbor’s home. However, inside is where the real danger begins. American Refugee: interview with Erika Alexander, Derek Luke and Ali LeRoi gives us a look into that world.

In the partnership between EPIX and Blumhouse, American Refugee is one of the 8 films that will be produced. I had the opportunity to speak with Erika Alexander (The Cosby Show, Living Single, Get Out ) and Derek Luke ( Antwone Fisher, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Purge) on their new film. American Refugee takes place in the apocalyptic collapse of the American economy. Greg (Derek Luke), Helen (Erika Alexander) and their children are forced to seek refuge with a neighbor Winter (Sam Trammel) and his family in their bunker. The events inside the bunker turn out to be more terrifying than the restrictions on humanity on the outside.

Alexander and Luke talked about the issue of working on a film with this theme in addition to being in a global pandemic. As well as what entertainment industry hopefuls must do to have longevity.

Director Ali LeRoi (Co-creator of Everybody Hates Chris) talked about the challenges in directing American Refugee and his ability to navigate comedy and drama as a filmmaker.

The film debuts on December 10, 2021 on EPIX.
