Celebrating dope women can actually help unleash your dopeness!

Last week, I attended the Atlanta Women’s Expo.  I had the opportunity to meet some super dope women and it left me feeling hella proud!!  So proud in fact, that it set the tone for the entire week.  *photography by Kreed Celisse Photography*

Episode 11 of The Dope Black Chick released this week and I decided to talk about the importance of celebrating our sisters.  Personally, I get great joy from seeing women that look like me defy the odds.  I am encouraged to see them persevere in the face of hardships and difficulty.  Click here to listen to episode 11 “My Sister’s Keeper”.

There is so much that we can gain from our sisters.  It benefits not only them but ourselves as well.  I gathered two of my sister-friends, April & Celisse to join me for the expo.  April is a brilliant writer with an inspirational blog, Breath of Life Daily.  Celisse is a gifted photographer and creative behind KreedCelisse Photography.  I knew that not only would these ladies be great company for me at the event, but they could also benefit from being there.  I actually wish I’d invited more of my female friends out to the expo.  Because the day turned out to be an exciting day of sisterhood.

As soon as we arrived, we stopped at various booths admiring the creativity of each sister there.  I made sure to let them know just how proud I was of them and gave them big hugs.  In my podcast, I reiterated the importance of having a bond with our fellow sisters.  Walking through the expo, I remember sharing in laughter with complete strangers that felt like cousins.  That is the beauty of black sisterhood.  It does not matter if we know each other or not, we have the same struggles and we know the same burdens.

The most important tip I can give to help you create these bonds is this:  Make sure to celebrate your sister.  Shout out her wins as if they were your own.  You need to learn to be as happy for them as you’d be for yourself.  Because when one of us wins, we all win.
