I love this jacket and NO, it’s not a fashion trend…

Have I told you that I’m a Daddy’s girl?  Well, I am.  I was blessed to have a strong black male role model in my life.  I remember snuggling up with my Papa everyday and sitting on his knee.  He was my super hero.  He could do anything.  To this day, I still believe he can do anything.  I call him the Man-Man.  Interestingly enough, he’s given me a piece of fashion that has become a fall fashion trend.

Last weekend, I visited my hometown to spend time with family, friends, and to vote absentee.  The fall weather was perfect, but there was an expectation of cooler weather as the sunset.  I grabbed my father’s old Army jacket which he gave to me three years ago.  I’ve always loved it and he finally let me have it.

I can remember as a young girl the anticipation waiting for my father to arrive back home from his time away on base.  When he walked in the door, my sisters and I would hold on tight to his legs, giving him huge hugs as we welcomed our hero back.  I loved seeing him in his fatigues.  So, wearing this jacket brings me a sense of nostalgia.  Remembering the feeling of pride I had for my father and still hold for him.  It was the perfect jacket to pair with my high waist, dark rinse,  skinny jeans and striped off-shoulder crop top.

When my sisters saw me Saturday, they automatically wanted the jacket.  My mom told me that she had seen so many fashionistas wearing the army fatigues in the videos and on television.  She actually thought I’d purchased it. I quickly pointed out the faded THOMAS name badge reminding her that this jacket belonged to my father.  This was why my sisters wanted this jacket. Not because it was “trendy” as my mom pointed out.  But because they all felt a certain longing for it.  We all remembered being Daddy’s Little Girl, bobbing up and down on his knee, eagerly awaiting his return home while he shared his MRE’s and told us all about Army life.

When my dad opened the door and saw me standing there in his old army jacket, a smile crossed his face.  It was a smile of many emotions.  One, I’m sure was shock that I’d even be wearing it.  Followed by reminiscence of a time past and pride.  Yes, pride.
