Trust Issues

What’s at the root of your trust issues? Let’s unpack, shall we?

Last week in the Confidently Dope Community, we worked on our trust issues.  It was a tough week & intention, however, what we found is that our real issue isn’t in trusting others. It’s in trusting ourselves.

I tend to see many of us saying that we can’t “trust” or don’t “trust” certain people.  And to that I say, “What are you trusting them for?”  You can trust humans to do one thing and one thing only…

Be imperfect.

None of us (me included) can be perfect at all times.

A lot of distrust comes from the expectation of others (and even yourself) to do and or be what we desire [consistently].  And although we can create a pattern of behavior that seems consistent; there is always the chance that we will break that consistency.  This then leads to disappointment and distrust.

So what’s the solution Isis? I’m glad you asked.

Ultimately, trusting in the imperfection of humanity is the only way to effectively trust someone.  I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have defined boundaries with others.

However, do trust in your boundaries, your needs, and in how you will respond to any violations of them.   Make room for the truth that some people will fail you.  And decide what type (if any) grace you will extend.  This will lessen the fear of disappointment, which is at the root of your trust issues.
