Homophobia Amongst Family & Community

The category is… HOMOPHOBIA! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, our topic for today is centered around homophobia and why on earth is this even still a thing. There has been a progression in acceptance and doors have been open, yes, however we still aren’t at the finish line. Homophobia amongst family members is even more traumatizing and we have yet to discuss why.

Selective Love Ain’t Love

As a kid, my perception of the world was a bit skewed. I was surrounded by infinite love. From my parents to my extended family, church family, even neighbors. My family was literally grounded in love.

Sure, I knew there was evil in the world, but I always thought as long as you give love sincerely, it’ll forever outweigh the hate.

However, it wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized a lot of people harbor so much hatred in their hearts. And once I came out, nothing negatively changed. Why? Because there was nothing different about me. I’m still the same Jasmine that everyone knows and loves.

To be quite honest, my mother was more than accepting of me. She will ride for me until the wheels fall off and if my father were still alive, he’d be just as accepting.

Parents, love on your children. Not because you’re biologically programmed to, but because you created this beautiful masterpiece and it is your job to reassure them of their greatness even when they may fail. Reassure them of how beautiful just the way they are even when the world may be telling them the complete opposite. Love is love. Period.

We Are Literally NOT The Problem

There is no gay agenda, we aren’t forcing our sexuality on your children, we’re literally trying to exist in a world that seeks us out and wishes the worst on us. Leave us alone.

Coming out is supposed to be liberating and freeing! We just want respect. At this point, forget the acceptance! We just want the same opportunities that everyone else has.

I was raised in the church. I have a solid relationship with God that no one can detach me from, but there is no way you can convince me that the God I serve took his blessed time creating me AS I AM just to send me to hell. You can’t convince me that God is love but hates who I am; who HE created.

It’s amazing how homophobes think we’re supposed to live up to your beliefs and expectations. Just because you condemn us, it’s automatically written law.

Well, I’ve got news for you, sweetness. I’m living my life by my rules, by doing what makes me happy. This conversation is so repetitive and exhausting. Fix your trauma, first. Fix your insecurities first.
